The IUCAA Centre for Astronomy Research and De v e l opme n t ( I CARD) a t t h e Department of Physics and Electronics, CHRIST University, Bangalore, organised a three-day National Seminar on ' Advances in Astrophysics and Space Science Research ' from 13-15 February 2023. The s em i n a r a i me d t o mo t i v a t e t h e postgraduate and undergraduate students with insights and knowledge on the current d e v e l o pme n t s i n a s t r o n omy a n d as t rophys i cs . The re we re ove r 40 participants who attended the seminar and represented different parts of the country. The seminar covered talks on recent advances in astronomy and astrophysics by eminent scientists, contributory talks and posters by the participants, hands-on da t a ana l ys i s sess i ons and pane l discussions. The seminar was inaugurated by Professor Annapurni Subramaniam, Director, Indian Advances in Astrophysics and Space Science Research Eminent speakers from all over the world, such as Professor M. Xavier James Raj, retired senior scientist from VSSC-ISRO, Professor Kanak Saha from IUCAA, Professor Renu Malhotra from Arizona University, USA, Professor Alessandra Celletti from University of Roma Tor and a presentation session by the participants. Ve r ga t a , I t a l y, P r o f e s s o r E l ba z I . Abouelmagd from NRIAG Egypt, Professor Mai Bando from Kyushu University, Japan, Professor Ranjan Gupta from IUCAA, Professor S. N. Hasan from MANUU, Professor Manish Dev Shrimali from CURAJ, Professor Badam Singh Kushvah from IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, Dr. Vineet Kumar Srivastava from ISRO Bangalore and Dr. Ram Kishor from CURAJ delivered their lectures on the theme of the workshop. The workshop was the second workshop on Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy hosted by the CURAJ, in which D r . R am K i s h o r ( D e p a r t me n t o f Mathematics, CURAJ, Ajmer and Professor Kanak Saha (IUCAA, Pune) were the coordinators. Institute of Astrophysics, Bengaluru and presided over by Professor Fr. Joseph C. C., Pro Vice-Chancellor, CHRIST University, Bengaluru. The talk on ' Astronomy from the ground and space-based telescopes ' delivered by Prof. Annapurni Subramaniam highlighted the transition of astronomy from the use of position of stars to navigate the night sky to the use of telescopes to unveil the star formation in the far-off galaxies. The talk also emphasised the country's existing ground and space- based telescope facilities and future space missions by outlining the researchworks of the team led by her. Other plenary talks on the theme of the seminar were delivered by Professor Ajith Parmeswaran (ICTS, Bengaluru), Dr Shyama Narendranath K. C. (ISAC-ISRO, Bengaluru), Professor Manoj Puravankara (TIFR, Mumbai), Dr. Dipanjan Mukherjee (IUCAA, Pune), Dr Smitha Subramanian, (IIA, Bengaluru), Dr. Vaidehi S. Paliya (IUCAA, Pune) and Dr Tapas Baug (SNBNCBS, Kolkata). A public talk on 'India's first Space Solar Observatory: Aditya L1' delivered by Professor Dipankar Banerjee, Director, ARIES, Nainital, on the second day, highlighted the capabilities of Aditya L1 to understand the coronal heating in Sun, solar wind acceleration, initiation of the coronal mass ejection, solar flares and near-Earth space weather etc. All the plenary talks were held in the morning sessions, afternoons were used for the contributory talks by the participants and a hands-on session on astronomical tools such as SAO DS9, TOPCAT, and Astropy in Python. The three-day National Seminar concluded with a panel discussion by a team led by Professor Maheshwar Gopinathan (IIA, Bengaluru), followed by a brief valedictory function. The seminar, coordinated by Professor S. B. Gudennavar (ICARD Coordinator), Dr Sreeja S. Kartha and Dr Jithesh V. (event coordinators), was a great success in bringing leading scientists, researchers and students together to share their latest findings and exchange ideas. The seminar highlighted the importance of collaboration and innovation in advancing scientific knowledge and understanding the field of astronomy and space science. CHRIST University sincerely thanked Professor Ranjeev Misra and the IUCAA authorities for supporting the ICARD at Christ University. The IUCAA-supported workshop on the Sun and Space Weather-Impacts on the Terrestrial Environment was organised by the Department of Physics, University College, Trivandrum, on 15 and 16 March 2023. The workshop intended to impart basic understanding in the field of Solar-terrestrial physics to the postgraduate and graduate physics students. Among the 245 applicants, forty-five were selected for the programme; forty-one participantswere fromKerala, and fourwere fromother states.
