Public Outreach Activities Special Events A partial solar eclipse was observed on 25 October 2022 in almost all parts of India. IUCAA conducted a huge Eclipse viewing program at the following locations, which was live-streamed on the IUCAA YouTube channel: Partial Solar Eclipse Event - 25thOctober a) IUCAA, Pune: The eclipse viewing programwas done in collaboration with the Center for Science Education and Communication (CSEC), SPPU, Pune. Four telescopes with solar filters were set up. The Scipop team members Tushar Purohit, Mayuri Patwardhan, Maharudra Mate, Emma Chokar, and Atharva Pathak coordinated the event, which over 1000people attended. b) Guhagar, Konkan: An eclipse viewing program was conducted on the beach at Guhagar near Ratnagiri. The event was coordinated by Shivani Pethe. c) Samir Dhurde coordinated a solar eclipse viewing at Lonar, and Rupesh Labade coordinated a viewing at Pargaon, AmbegaonTaluka. GlobalSCAPE international events: A one-day skill-building session aimed at science communicators was delivered at IUCAA on 25 November 2022. It was organised in collaboration with Springer Nature as part of the GlobalSCAPE consortium. This was part of a series of workshops in six locations worldwide: Spain, South Africa, Australia, India, Colombia, andJapan. The speakerswere Shubhra Priyadarshini fromSpringer Nature India and Samir Dhurde. The workshop was attended by 22 science communicators from across the country. As part of the final event of the GlobalSCAPE project on 03 February 2023, Samir Dhurde talked about IUCAA activities and how to keep outreach low-cost and local in Brussels, Belgium. ScienceToysdemonstration,TelescopeMaking, AstronomyandSkywatchevents The Scipop teamcomprising Rupesh Labade, Tushar Purohit, MaharudraMate, Mayuri Patwardhan, and Shivani Pethe conducted Science toys demonstration, Telescope Making, Astronomy, and Skywatch events at Ahmednagar, Nashik, Haryana, Pune, Gujarat, Junnar, Triputi, Nirgudsar, Khed taluka, Karandi village, Wadala and Satara from October 2022 to March 2023. Volunteer training was conducted for twentyM.Sc students of Ruia College, Mumbai, on 29January 2023. “ExploratoryScienceSessions”atPrajnaPrabodhanVarg,JnanaPrabodhini -heldfromOctobertoDecember2022 A three-month program from October to December 2022 was held in Jnana Prabodhini for the students of Prajna Prabodhan Varg. This program's main focus was learning physics and astronomy concepts through hands-on training. The Exploratory Science Experiential Learning sessionswere coordinated by Shivani Pethe. • The Scipop team organised a one-day teacher training for Zilla Parishad school teachers of the Hingoli district on01October 2022. TeacherTrainingWorkshops • An astronomers meet was held on 02 October 2022 at SRTMU, Nanded. • S K A O u t r e a c h a n d R a d i o K i t inauguration was held on 11 and 12 November 2022 at the IUCAA campus. • The PKC STEM teachers' training workshop was held on 07 and 08 December 2022, jointly organised by PKC and the IUCAAScipop team. • Teacher Training was held at Hingoli on 22November and 23December 2022 SKA-IndiaoutreachRRI,Bangalore&GauribidanurObservatory: (16–20January2023) A week-long outreach program that involved talks, kit demonstrations, and teacher training was organised in collaboration with Raman Research Institute (RRI) and the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bangalore. Samir Dhurde, Shivani Pethe, and Rupesh Labade coordinated the program. After a gap of two years, the IUCAA National Science Day celebrations were back this year in the in-person format. Taking advantage of the Sunday just two days before the science day, an open day was conducted on 26th February 2023. The NationalScienceDay2023 programs also continued on theNational ScienceDay, i.e. 28th February 2023. The two-day celebrations of National Science Day attracted numerous groups of students, teachers, parents, and the public, who came from around Pune and other parts of Maharashtra. Like every year, IUCAA observed people's enthusiasm to associate better with Science and Scientists.
